Notion is a new product. It has less than 15 employees, an $800m valuation and is profitable to boot.

Had Apple not done both the hardware and software would it be what it is today?

In general I agree, focus is good. But you need to be able to break out of these successful startup “rules” to realise sometimes the rules need to be broken. Notion would not have happened had it stayed too focused.
